Gunmen Kill 2 Policemen In UNIJOS

A police inspector and a corporal attached to the University of Jos (UNIJOS) were on Monday, October 6, 2014 killed by unknown gunmen who marauded the university in the Plateau state capital, Thisday reports.

According to eyewitnesses, gunmen, about twelve in number attacked the security post at the institution’s permanent site around 11 pm, firing gunshots and killing both policemen in the process.

One of the security men on duty who managed to escape from the scene said the gunmen had escaped immediately the had shot the officers, describing it as a case of hit-and -run.

The incident left the students scared as they fled for safety before police back up arrived to restore calm.

The Plateau state police public relations officer, Emmanuel Abuh confirmed knowledge of the incident, adding that both slain officers were the policemen on duty. He further stated that the police have begun hunting down the suspects and they would soon be rounded up and brought to book.

He however refused to disclose there names, although he said that the inspector had spent up to twenty five years in active police service while the corporal was a young officer whose career had only begun before he was slain.
