Must read

Information reaching The Trent confirms the unusual heavy deployment of security personnel at the Onitsha Central Mosque in Onitsha, Anambra State on Friday, May 6, 2016.

According to source who passed by the mosque on Sokoto Road, close to Onitsha Main Market at about 2.30pm, a crack team of the Anambra State Joint Security Task Force has been deployed to protect the Muslims in Onitsha as they hold their Friday Jumu’ah prayers.

“There is presently a huge team of armed security personnel around the Onitsha Central Mosque,” the source, who did not wish to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter, told our reporter. “I sighted police officers, soldiers, naval officers, and other non-uniformed security operatives around the mosque controlling the movement of vehicles and people to and from the area.”

This development confirms that the incident at Kara, a Hausa community on the outskirts of Onitsha on Tuesday night, May 3, 2016 was a bomb attack and consequently, there is heightened security deployment to contain the threat of another possible terrorist attack against the community.

The Trent reported exclusively that a bomb was detonated in a local restaurant in Kara community in Ogbaru Local Government Area around 8pm after it was planted by a man described by eye-witnesses as a “Hausa-speaking traveller”. The true story of the bombing and attempts by the Nigerian police to cover-up the incident was exposed by a brave human rights activist group, Intersociety. You may read the group’s report HERE.
