A 72-year-old man has been reportedly murdered inside St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Umuoghara in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State following a misunderstanding with the priest.
A man identified as Chukwuka Ben, has been arrested by the officials of the state police command Thursday, May 5, 2016 for committing the dastardly act on Monday, May 2, 2016.
It was gathered that prior to the murder, the suspect who hails from Ugalaba village of Umuoghara, had a misunderstanding with the Priest in charge of the church and had come to the church on the fateful day to confront the priest who was not around.
The visibly enraged suspect was said to have met the septuagenarian around the church and allegedly killed him and ran away.
The reason why he killed Uhuo has not yet been deciphered but sources privy t the matter said it was following a misunderstanding with the Priest which the deceased was not aware of.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP George Okafor, confirmed the incident.
He said: “It was on the 2nd of May, 2016 that information got to the police that one Fidelis Uhuo of Ugalaba village of Umuoghara of about 72 years was murdered by one Chukwuka Ben of same address.
“The corpse of the deceased was found within the church premises of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. The suspect ran away after the act and was arrested some days later.
“Presently, he is cooperating with the police to find out what actually transpired that led to the killing of the deceased.”
