One difference between mature believer and babes in Christ is their reliance on the Holy Spirit. A babe does whatever he likes, but a mature believer receives instructions from the Holy Spirit. Jesus said to Peter, “Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.”
The other side of leadership is followership. In other words, a leader is not a leader in the real sense if there’s no one following him. Here’s the point: you and I must yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit to be led by Him. We ought to get to the point where like Jesus, we prefer, and are obligated to do His own wishes and desires instead of ours.
Success is guaranteed only when the Holy Spirit is in control. You can’t hold God responsible for what He didn’t lead you to do! That’s what we do, right? We can’t be leading ourselves and expect His blessings. It may happen when we are babes, but the older we get in Christ, we are expected to be dependent on Him. Jesus said He did nothing except what He saw the Father do.
