A 7-year-old girl has been killed by Boko Haram today, Sunday, February 22, 2015 after terrorists wrap a bomb around her and remotely detonated the bomb which killed her, five others and left about 19 persons with varying degrees of injuries in a market in Potiskum, Yobe state.
A local vigilante leader, Buba Lawan disclosed that the injured victims of the attack were taken to hospital for treatment.
He said, “So far, five people were killed with the girl while 19 others have been taken to hospital for injuries.”
A hospital source who craved anonymity also confirmed the death toll and the number of injured persons from the attack which occurred around 1:30 p.m.
Security and vigilante officials disclosed that they suspected the girl and tried to bar her from entering the market about four times.
Lawan said, “We sent her back four times, because given her age, she did not have anything to do in the market.
“When we were screening people, she bent and tried to pass under the ropes, some distance from our view. That was when the explosives went off.”
He added, “Since the January suicide bomb attacks, we have barred women from entering the market to prevent further attacks.”
This is an addition to the uncountable attacks launched in different northern states in Nigeria by men of the Islamist extremist sect under the umbrella of Boko Haram.
Prominent among the states under the siege of terrorism are Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states and they have also launched attaches neighbouring countries like Cameroon and Chad. A multi-national force has now joined the war on terrorism in Nigerian.
Their various attacks have left more than 13,000 dead and rendered over one million persons homeless since 2009.
