Following DSS Attack, Justice Adeniyi Ademola Retires From The Bench

Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, has voluntarily retired as a judge.

Justice Ademola, one of the judges attacked by the Nigerian secret police and tried for corruption along with his wife, reportedly put in a letter of retirement on Wednesday, December 6, 2017.

He sat on the bench the same day and presided over cases that day.

After the attack on his house and reputation by the Muhammadu Buhari government, Justice Ademola was tried before Justice Jude Okeke of the Federal Capital Territory High Court for corruption along with his wife. Both of them were discharged and acquitted because the government could not prove its case.

The National Judicial Council, NJC, later recalled him and several other judges who had been suspended based on the allegations of corruption by the DSS, Nigeria’s secret police.

The NJC said that they were recalled following the inability of the government to prove its allegations against the judges and in the case of Ademola, his acquittal.

Ademola, who is expected to reach retirement age in March 2018, had said that his trial was politically motivated. He was the judge who presided over the high-profile political trial of former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
