Kanye West Slapped With $800,000 Lawsuit Over Copyright Infringement (DETAILS)

Must read

Kanye West has been spending the past few weeks traveling the world with wife Kim Kardashian to enjoy their newlywed bliss.

But on Thursday RadarOnline reported the 37-year-old rapper has been hit with some cold hard reality as seventies hit maker Robert Poindexter of The Persuaders has filed a federal lawsuit claiming the Stronger musician illegally sampled his 1972 hit Trying Girls Out (The Composition).

This isn’t the first time the Atlanta native has been accused of stealing another artist’s song: in 2013 the family of David Pryor filed a lawsuit accusing West of illegally sampling the late singer’s song Bumpin’ Bus Stop for his chart-topping hit Gold Digger

The site has seen the lawsuit paperwork, which was filed in New York on May 28 – just four days after West said I do to Kim in Italy.

Poindexter has alleged that West used his work for the 2002 remix of Girls Girls Girls.

‘Kanye West has never acquired authorization from me or the copyright owners of the composition,’ Poindexter said in the court documents.

West ‘willfully infringed the composition copyright for private and financial gain by selling and distributing an untold amount of tangible and digital copies.’

In 2012 Poindexter tried to sue West, but by January of this year the case was thrown out as the Bound 2 singer did not respond to the case.

The soul musician has said Kanye has caused him millions in financial losses ‘due to West’s refusal to credit him for his work.’

The $800,000 is for punitive damages.
