Cyprus: Alleged Killers Of Nigerian Student Arraigned In Court

Three people arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of a 28-year-old Nigerian student in Famagusta, a city on the east coast of Cyprus, were arraigned in court on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.

According to police investigation, Kennedy Toomwabwa Dede was assaulted by 8 people on Tuesdy, January 30, 2018 and kidnapped from his car, taken to the Çanakkale Pond, mercilessly beaten to death.

The three suspects are Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus citizens, namely, Zekeriya Kurucu, 22, Ozan Korkurt, 18, and Burcu Çelik, 16.

Judge Gökan Asafoğluları ordered the suspects to remain in police custody for two days, as investigation continues.

Four other suspects are said to have been picked up. They are: Nidai Sanli, Onur Kurkurt, Simge Dagdur, and Aydan Sel.

This is not the first time that Nigerian student and citizens will be murdered in the Turkish-controlled country.

In 2015, reports were rife of a Nigerian student, Ebinabo Mendeinyo, who allegedly jumped to his death from the sixth floor of his apartment building.
