Top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, poured cold water on the governorship ambition of the immediate past Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, calling his a failure.
It will be recalled that Maku had defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) after losing the Nasarawa gubernatorial ticket of the PDP to Yusuf Agabi.
The party leaders who spoke at the PDP presidential campaign rally in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, said Maku will continue failing until he retraces his steps and returns to the PDP.
Particularly vocal about his displeasure over Maku’s defection was the Director General of the PDP campaign team and former PDP National Chairman, Ahmadu Ali, who described Maku as a prodigal son who will continue failing, until he returns home.
Ali said: “He is a failure and would keep failing for the rest of his life, unless he re-traces his steps back to the elders like us and we would forgive him as a prodigal son.”
Also addressing the crowd, Senate President , David Mark debunked claims by Maku that President Goodluck Jonathan was in support of his bid under APGA.
He said: “Do not listen to lies from one of your sons who said he is in another party because Mr. President has put him there; that is absolute lie; you must never believe it. We said so few days ago and we are emphasising it again,
“We want to emphasise it, Mr. President is body and soul PDP; he can therefore not put anybody in another political party to be campaigning on behalf of another political party.
“How can you be in APGA and be campaigning for the PDP presidential candidate. Return to PDP with apology, because, before we even take him, he has to apologise to all the good people in PDP.”
Echoing Mark’s statements, President Jonathan said: “How can I be anti-party? I cannot be in PDP and be supporting another candidate”
