ABA, Nigeria — An unidentified man has been killed by a crowd in Aba after he allegedly threw two of his children from the upper floor of a residential building during a dispute with his wife.
One of the children died following the fall, while the other was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, according to accounts from residents.
The incident occurred earlier in the week at Umuobe Phase II in Ovom, within the Ogbor Hill area of Aba, Abia State.
The Abia State Police Command had not issued a detailed public account of the incident or announced any arrests in connection with the mob killing.
Dispute Reportedly Began Inside Family Home
The man, believed to have been in his early forties, was said to be from a community in Obingwa Local Government Area but lived with his family in Aba.
Residents said he became involved in a heated disagreement with his wife, who was nursing one of their children.
During the confrontation, he allegedly threatened to do something she would never forget.
As the argument intensified, two of the children reportedly moved towards the balcony of the family’s apartment on the upper floor of the building.
Witnesses alleged that the man followed them, picked up one child and threw the child from the building.
He was then accused of doing the same to the second child.
The identities and ages of the two children were not disclosed. The cause of the disagreement was not immediately known.
Wife Prevents Alleged Attack on Third Child
The man allegedly attempted to take a third child from his wife, but she resisted him and prevented him from reaching the child.
Residents said he subsequently jumped from the building and sustained injuries when he landed.
He was reportedly able to stand and attempted to leave the area as people gathered outside the property.
A crowd then attacked him, killing him before security personnel could intervene, according to the accounts.
It remained unclear whether the people involved in the mob attack had been identified.
Surviving Child Taken to Hospital
The child who survived the fall was rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
No update had been provided on the child’s condition, and the hospital involved was not identified.
The body of the second child and that of the man were taken to a mortuary.
The reports did not indicate whether the children’s mother sustained physical injuries during the confrontation.

Authorities had not publicly confirmed the sequence of events, the number of people questioned or whether an investigation had begun into the deaths.
