When a mum was buying a pack of underwear for her daughter at a mom-to-mom sale, she thought everything was right until she unwrapped it to find a disturbing note hidden inside.
Nicole Perez from Detroit, bought the Disney Fairies-themed underwear over the weekend, but the note she found inside appeared desperate with an address and number attached.
The handwritten notes were etched onto a piece of cardboard and it read, “Help me! Plz.”
Well, it didn’t end just at that as the back of the note had a woman’s name, ‘MayAnn,’ and a phone number, accompanied with the words: “Location: Philippines.”
She called the phone number but no one picked up.
The underwear is made in the Philippines and manufactured by Handcraft Manufacturing Corporation in New York.
The terrified mum said: “I was terrified. I just felt like everything just dropped to my stomach.”
She sent a mail to the manufacturer who promptly replied with an apology and an offer for a new pack of underwear, a report by ABC stated.
But Ms Perez still felt disturbed by the note.
Perez added: “You’re wondering if this is forced labor, if they’re just working long hours, they’re putting these underwear together and clearly someone is reaching out for help and so you think about your own kids and you hope that this isn’t the case.”
The president of Handcraft Manufacturing which makes the children’s clothing stated that the note appears to have been written by a factory worker, addng that the company will investigate the origin.
