New Service Chiefs To Resume Office Today

The New Service Chiefs who were appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday July 16, 2015 are set to assume office on Thursday, July 16, 2015, a source close to the military hierarchy has disclosed.

The newly appointed service chiefs are; Chief of Defence Staff, Maj.Gen. Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin; Chief of Army Staff, Maj.Gen. T.Y. Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan.

The Vanguard reports that the acting spokesperson of the Defence Headquarters,  Col. Sami Usman confirmed the handing over via a text message in the evening Wednesday July 15, 2015.

He said that the outgoing Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah, would hand over to his successor, Maj. Gen. Yukur Buratai, by 11am on Thursday.

The newly appointed service chiefs were expected to have resume office on the day of their appointment, but it was gathered that the men of the Armed Forces were involved in a drill rehearsal in preparation for today’s change of guard.

The exercises which is to hold at the Defence Headquarters would involve the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force.
