Niger Assembly Passes N211 Billion 2022 Budget

The Niger State House of Assembly has passed the 2022 budget of N211 billion with an additional N13 billion, representing 10% over the appropriation bill submitted by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.

It would be recalled that Governor Sani Bello had earlier presented the fiscal bill for 2022 of the sum of N198 billion.

However, the House increased the budget to N211 billion.

Giving reasons for the increase during plenary, the Chairman, House Committee on Planning and Appropriation, Muhammad Bashir Lokogoma, who submitted the report explained that the budget was increased following resolutions that the committee should look into various sources of revenue.

He explained that it was discovered that improvement could be made from capital receipt, refund, statutory allocation as well as from the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.

The budget has a recurrent expenditure of over 80 billion naira and the capital expenditure which stands at over 130 billion naira.

Speaking, Abdullahi Bawa Wuse, the Speaker, commended his colleagues and the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for their painstaking effort in considering the 2022 budget.

Meanwhile, the lawmakers have commenced their three weeks recess and will resume plenary on January 11, 2022.
