Nigerian Doctors Suspend Strike, Resume Work Today

Must read

Members of the Nigerian Medical Association are to resume work on Monday December 23rd after a 5-day warning strike.

The Doctors will however continue with an indefinite strike on 6th January 2014 if their demands are not met.

The President of NMA, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, in a statement on Sunday said the directive was in line with the association’s earlier promise “to give prime consideration to the yuletide season” in the prosecution of its warning strike.

Enabulele also said the strike was “to give another opportunity for the government to concretely resolve all the demands” for which a 21-day ultimatum was issued to government on September 2, 2013.”

“Accordingly, the NMA calls on all Nigerian doctors in the public health sector to resume full services with effect from 8am on Monday (today) December 23, 2013″, he said.

“We also wish to use this opportunity to remind government that Nigerian doctors shall not hesitate to commence a full blown strike from 8am on Monday, January 6, 2014, if government does not satisfactorily resolve the demands of the NMA.

“We, therefore, call on the local, state and federal levels of government to take note.”
