The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has finalized plans to probe state governments which have consistently owed workers’ salaries amidst bailout funds from the federal government.

President of the NLC, Comrade Wahab Ayuba, in collaboration with its Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, The Union reports, revealed on May Day that the unions planned to partner with anti-graft agencies in the country to investigate the governors to ascertain the use of the federal government bailout funds.

The labour unions accused the state governors and other members of the ruling class of amassing wealth at the expense of the Nigerian worker.

The labour unions insisted on pushing for a new minimum wage of N56,000 , even though some states were unable to pay the current national minimum wage of N18,000 .

This was prior to the celebration of the International Workers’ Day which is also known as Labour Day in some places while it is commonly referred as May Day in Nigeria.
