A wanted criminal, Arinze Nwachukwu, notorious for specializing in car theft and armed robbery has been nabbed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), of the Enugu Police command.
According to Vanguard, the suspect who is said to be from Akaegbeugwu in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state was rounded up following a tip-off from residents in Atakwu, Akogbeugwu following an altercation over the sharing of proceeds from the sand field in the community.
Ebere Amaraizu, the Enugu state police public relations officer confirmed the arrest saying: “the suspect had been on the wanted list of the operatives for various armed robbery and car-snatching incidents. He was arrested following a shoot-out between himself and other members of his gang over who controls the revenue accruing from the sand field at Atakwu. On hearing the sound of gunfire, residents in the area called our distress line.
“The operatives swung into action and arrested the suspect with two other members of his gang that were injured in the shoot-out. The injured ones are receiving treatment at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku, Ozalla.”
