Must read

108 prisoners have been rearrested by the Nigeria Prison Service (NPS) and returned to the Medium Security Prison, Minna following their escape from jail last week.

The development was made public via a statement signed by the NPS Spokesman, Ope Fatinikun and dated Monday, December 8, 2014.

The NPS said the recapture of the inmates was made possible due to a combined effort of Nigerian Army, the police, the Department of State Services and prison personnel and well-meaning members of the public, adding 166 other inmates were still at large were still being searched for.

The NPS also used the opportunity to call on communities and neighbouring states of Kwara, Kaduna, Kebbi and the Federal Capital Territory to be watchful of suspicious movements and report any of such to the nearest police station.

“Once again, the Controller-General of Prisons wishes to reassure the general public that from all investigations so far, there was no external or Boko Haram attack in the prison’s escape incidence,” parts of the statement read.
