The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), have redressed their steps after a five-day old industrial action.
The oil workers strike action was suspended after a meeting with the minister of petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke.
The unions embarked on an indefinite strike on Monday, September 15, 2014 because of the NNPC’s alleged refusal to address in-house pension issues concerning workers in the oil industry.
The strike left homes across the nation without power supply for days.
The president of PENGASSAN, Francis Johnson signed a joint communique with the permanent secretary in the ministry of petroleum resources, Jamila Shu’ara on Friday stating the strike action was suspended after an intervention by Allison-Madueke.
The letter was read by NUPENG president, Achese Igwe, on Friday, September 19, 2014.
