Today, March 17, 2014 is a historic day in Anambra State as the state’s seventh civilian governor, Willie Obiano, takes the oath of office to pilot the affairs of the state for the next four years.

Born in 1955, the new Anambra governor, Chief Obiano, a native of Agulueri-Otu in Anambra-East local government area in the North senatorial district, obtained a B.Sc. in Accountancy from the University of Lagos in 1979 and MBA in Marketing from the same university in 1993. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a former assistant director of the Fidelity Bank Plc.

There were fears in Anambra State yesterday that the lingering crisis in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) could mar the inauguration of the  Governor-elect, Chief Willie Obiano, who is billed to take over today from the outgoing Governor, Mr. Peter Obi

Although preparations were in top gear in Awka, the state capital, for the inauguration, residents expressed a sense of foreboding that the exercise might not hold because of the legal tussle between the two parties to the APGA crisis.

The inaugural session was held as planned and was witnessed by the outgoing Governor, Peter Obi, important dignitaries such as Senator Ben Obi, Special Adviser to the President on Inter-party Affairs, Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State, National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, Senator Maggery Okadigbo, former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen Azubuike Ihejirika, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu and others.
