Fulani Herdsmen Attack: One Policeman Found Dead, 2 ‘Reappear’

One of the four missing Nigerian police officers who went missing in Benue State on Saturday, February 10, 2018 has been found dead on Monday, February 12, 2018.

The four mobile police officers went missing following an ambush on their patrol vehicle in Tse Akpam village, near Azege town around 3:00 pm on Saturday afternoon as the officers were returning from a peace-building mission in remote village on Saturday.

The remains of the sergeant, were found in the bush on Monday morning and has been deposited at a morgue in Anyiin, another town in Logo LGA, locals said.

Terkura Suswam, a politician and founder of Ashi Polytechnic in Anyiin, said the officer’s body arrived at NKST Hospital in Anyiin Monday morning.

The location of the officer brought to three the total number of personnel so far accounted for in the attack, as two of the four officers, were found unhurt yesterday.

Fatai Owoseni, the Benue State police commissioner on Sunday, February 11, 2018 said the returned officers appeared at the police station in Ayilamo, near Azege town where the attack occurred, late last night. Rescue efforts coordinated by the police had been underway since Saturday evening.

He said, “Two officers rejoined their colleagues. Unhurt. Hoping to see the remaining two.

“The police said they’re expecting confirmation of casualties on the side of the attackers, but no suspects had been arrested.”
