Ahmed Makarfi, the chairman of National Caretaker Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, said there were five failed attempts to stop the Saturday, August 12, 2017 non-elective national convention of the party.

Ahmed Makarfi Makarfi disclosed this at the opening ceremony of the 75th PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party held at the party national Secretariat on Friday, August 11, 2017 in Abuja.

He said that the purpose of the meeting was to enable the NEC members to review all the happening across the country. “At least there were four or five attempts to this convention through the court but as God will have it we overcame all those attempts.”

“So the convention will hold tomorrow.

“Some people never give up. We must not think that we are out of the woods. People will continue with legal minds in our paths.

“We are going to overcome that with our resilience and to do the needful,” Makarfi said.

Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti State and the chairperson of the PDP Governors’ Forum, also speaking at the meeting, pledged the forum’s commitment and submission to PDP decisions.

He urged all NEC members to embrace the spirit of new beginning for the party to make the Saturday convention a success.

The chairperson of the PDP Board of Trustees, BOT, Senator Wali Jubrin gave the assurance that the board would not allow the party to die. Jubrin congratulated the party on its victory at the Supreme Court judgment delivered on July 12.

Five thousand delegates from across the country have assembled in Abuja for the main opposition party’s national convention to hold at the Eagles Square in the nation’s capital.
