Comrade Sobomabo Jackrich, popularly known as Egberipapa, a former leader of the Movement of the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) was arrested on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 by a crack team of the Department of State Security over allegations of assassination plots to kill President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President David Mark and some top government officials.

Acting on intelligence, Department of State Security (DSS) arrested Egberipapa along with three others, who sources say was masquerading under another name at the time of the arrest, according to Per Second News, an online platform that reported this exclusively.

Several gang leaders of the group that allegedly conspired to kill the President had been detained in connection with the plot and were handed over to authorities in their respective states in a bid to extradite them to Abuja.

In 2010, MEND claimed responsibility for the October 1 bombing that left 12 people dead in Abuja which was followed by the conviction of assumed MEND leader Henry Okah by a South African court on 13 count charge of terrorism and jailed for 24 years. President Jonathan has said that Okah was paid to kill him.
