The Oyo State Police Command on Monday, June 8, 2015 declared wanted three members of Ogunmola masquerade family in Ibadan over mayhem during the egungun festival.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Police Commissioner, Mr. Muhammed Katsina, made the declaration while parading Sikiru Ojewale, the custodian of the Ogunmola masquerade of Adenimodo compound in Ibadan.

Kastina, who was represented by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the police were working to arrest the people connected with the incident.

He directed the fleeing members of the masquerade to report to the nearest police station immediately in their own interest.

He said Ojewale was arrested for inciting his followers and for participating in the mayhem as well as destruction of property.

The commissioner said, “The ugly development resulted in the total breakdown of law and order in the Ayeye area of Mapo.

“Members of the masquerade’s family and all the suspects had refused to sign the peace pact to be of good conduct earlier issued by the police.

“The meeting was to ensure that there was peace during the egungun festival, but they refused to honour our call for peace.”

Katsina said no individual or group of persons would be allowed by the police to constitute a threat to public peace in the state.
