Governor Obaseki Wins In Appeal Court

Must read

The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, won again at the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin.

The five-member panel of the appellate court, led by Justice M. A. Owoade, through zoom, dismissed for lacking merit, the appeals by Action Democratic Party, ADP, and its governorship candidate, Iboi Emmanuel;  Action Peoples Party (APP); and Allied Peoples Movement, APM, over the September 19, 2020 governorship election in Edo.

The court upheld the March 29 unanimous judgment of the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Benin, which affirmed the victory of Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu.

Justice Owoade, while reading the judgment in the appeal by the ADP, said the tribunal was not in error when it ruled that Obaseki was educated up to school certificate level.

He said: “The appeal is devoid of merit and it is accordingly dismissed. The judgment by the tribunal is hereby affirmed.”
