‘Don’t insult other people’s faith’ – Pope Francis On Charlie Hebdo Massacre (PHOTOS)

In reaction to the newsroom massacre at the Charlie Hebdo magazine the incumbent head of Catholic church, Pope Francis,78,  on Thursday, January 15, 2015 during a flight from Sri Lamka to Philippines defended that in as much as freedom of speech is a fundamental human right, it should be put on check to avoid insulting or ridiculing people’s faith.

The Pope held the passenger aboard the plane more spellbound and somewhat confused when he jokingly made reference to his trip organizer, Alberto Gasparri, by saying he would definitely punch him if he dared insult his mother.

He said, “There are so many people who speak badly about religions, who make fun of them, who make a game out of the religions of others. They are provocateurs.’

‘If my good friend Dr Gasparri says a curse word against my mother, then a punch awaits him. It’s normal. One cannot provoke. One cannot insult the faith of others. One cannot make fun of faith.’

“It’s normal. You cannot provoke. You cannot insult the faith of others. You cannot make fun of the faith of others.”

Quite the opposite according to , Pope Francis said such horrific violence in God’s name couldn’t be justified and was an “aberration.” But he said a reaction of some sort was to be expected.

The Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine is a Fench magazine renowned for publishing inflammatory cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed.

The Pope had reportedly urged Muslim leaders to speak out against Islamic extremism as regards the numerous attacks.
