President Jonathan Meets With Governors Of Oil Producing States

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday, held a closed door meeting with governors of oil producing states in Nigeria at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The governors in attendance were Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Theodore Orji (Abia); Liyel Imoke (Cross Rivers); Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta) and Adams Oshiomhole (Edo).

The governors of Bayelsa and Imo States were ably represented by their deputy governors at the Monday meeting which was also attended by Vice President Namadi Sambo and some other top officials of government.

The governors refused to speak with reporters at the end of the meeting.

While Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and Dr Theodore Orji told journalists that Godswill Akpabio would brief on the outcome of the meeting the Akwa Ibom State Governor in turn told reporters that he was not mandated by the President to brief anyone on the outcome of the meeting and so would not.

These states are seen as major revenue generating states since most of Nigeria’s revenue is generated from oil exploration.

However, the revenue from the oil and gas sector is depleting rapidly due to increasing oil theft, a development that must have been discussed at the meeting.

Security agencies are increasing surveillance of oil pipelines across the nation to check the activities of those stealing the nation’s oil.
