The Trent can confirm that Chief Ibibia Walter, commissioner of Water Resources of Rivers State who was abducted by unknown gunmen on Saturday, March 18, 2016 the day of the rerun elections in the state has been freed by his abductors.
Chief Walter, who is also the scribe of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers, spoke with our reporter on the phone, confirmed that he has been freed by his abductors.
His vehicle was ambushed as he was on his way to Okrika to vote in the rerun elections. Some of his assailants were masked and “fierce-looking” and whisked him away to an undisclosed location, preventing the PDP chieftain from casting his vote in the election.
Later in the day, intelligence revealed that Walter’s abduction was connected with grand conspiracy to hijack INEC electoral officials and elections materials in Okrika by APC thugs and military men with the aim of rigging the elections on the high sea.
Walter was later freed by his abductors and he was able to communicate with a police team that rescued him. An incident report has been filed with the police.
A close family source who confirmed Walter’s release to The Trent, said that there has been jubilation in the family over the commissioner’s safe return.
