Must read

The Nigerian Senate which was supposed to resume plenary sitting on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 has postponed its resumption date by a week and would be resuming on Tuesday, July 28, 2015.

The Senate Clerk made this known via a statement issued on Friday, July 17, 2015.

The statement read: “This is to inform all distinguished senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the resumption of the senate in plenary has been rescheduled from Tuesday, 21st July 2015 to Tuesday, 28th July, 2015,” the statement by the senate clerk reads.

Although no reason was given for the shift in resumption date, The Cable reports that feelers have it that the postponement was announced in order to give the senators an opportunity to present a united front to President Muhammadu Buhari as regards the crisis rocking the National Assembly.

A senator, who spoke anonymously said: “Reconvening next week without resolving the outstanding matters would be unhelpful. So some of us reasoned that since the president would be away for a few days starting from this Sunday, we should not reconvene yet.

“Rather, we should use the opportunity to come together, sort out the contending issues and arrive at some workable agreements. By the time Buhari returns from his US trip, the senate would be ready for business.”
