SERAP Reminds Buhari Of His 2015 Election Promises, Asks For Release Of Dunamis Church Protesters

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately release five activists arrested at Dunamis International Gospel Centre last month.

Recall that on July 4, some activists were arrested for wearing t-shirts with “Buhari Must Go” on them at Dunamis International Gospel Centre.

However, a Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, July 26 ordered the Department of State Services, DSS, to release the activists.

Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court in Abuja gave the order following separate ex-parte applications filed on behalf of the activists’ by their lawyer, Tope Temokun.

The DSS, President Muhammadu Buhari, the church’s pastor, and others were sued for alleged unlawful arrest and detention.

Meanwhile, report it that the activists are still in the net of the security operatives despite the court order.

SERAP on Monday, however, reminded the Nigerian President of his words during the 2015 inauguration that the law enforcement authorities will be charged to operate within the constitution.

The right group, on its official Twitter handle, said, “Dear President Buhari, you promised in your 2015 inaugural speech: “The law enforcing authorities will be charged to operate within the Constitution.

“We, therefore, urge you to instruct the DSS to immediately release 5 activists arrested at Dunamis Church, as ordered by the court.”
