#SoundOff: Fuel Subsidy Removal – Buhari Only Increasing Suffering For Nigerians

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]omorrow or on Friday, the federal government will make an official announcement removing the fuel subsidy on petroleum products.

We are likely to buy fuel at a new official variant of between N110 to N150 from this weekend. When President Goodluck Jonathan tried to remove the same subsidy in January 2012, these same cowboys in power, sponsored protests all over the country to frustrate that decision. Today, the All Progressives Congress (APC) government is the sponsor of subsidy removal.

Taxes, hardship, depression, vampire policies, chains…

I need to add this – President Muhammadu Buhari may be a corrective kind of leader in some aspects of his governance in the eyes of some of his supporters but he’s a leader who lacks populist compassion for the led. Living in a fortress in Aso Rock, he’s very far removed from the suffering in the land. Far removed.

And these guys try to play smart. They timed the announcement of the fuel subsidy removal to coincide with Buhari’s trip out of Nigeria so that he would symbolically not be seen as the one who approved the announcement.
