I acknowledge the finished works of Christ on the cross of calvary; He purified us with His blood. Hallelujah! But that’s not the end of the story. You’ll agree with me that whatever is made clean can become dirty again. Having been made pure, God expects us to stay pure; having been made holy, God expects us to stay holy; having been made righteous, God expects us to stay righteous. That’s the truth.
1 John 5:18 says, “We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.” You see, we’ve got a responsibility! James 1:27 says, “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”
There were things Paul told Timothy to flee from, and there were those he asked him to pursue. You’ve got to take extra care not to expose yourself to things that can make you defiled; remember that Jesus is coming for a church without spot. Guard your heart! There are places you don’t have to visit; there are conversations you don’t have to be a part of; there are things you don’t have to do! 2 Peter 3:14 says, “Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless.” Amen.
