Jonah 1.3 “But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord . He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.”
A lot of us are like Jonah, even though we have not realized it. We’re engaged in activities we’re not supposed to be doing, we’re doing things no one sent us to do, we’ve accepted the wrong offers. We think we’re making progress but we’ve paid fares to wrong destinations.
Have you read the parable of the trees? “The trees once went forth to anoint a king over them. And they said to the olive tree, ‘Reign over us!’ But the olive tree said to them, ‘Should I cease giving my oil, with which they honor God and men, and go to sway over trees?’ ‘Then the trees said to the fig tree, ‘You come and reign over us!’ But the fig tree said to them, ‘Should I cease my sweetness and my good fruit, and go to sway over trees?’ ‘Then the trees said to the vine, ‘You come and reign over us!’ But the vine said to them, ‘Should I cease my new wine, which cheers both God and men, and go to sway over trees?’”
Be careful, not all good offers are good for you. You’ve got to know what God’s will concerning you is at all times. Be bold enough to reject any thing that will hinder you from fulfilling your assignment. Know your assignment, know the details, don’t be distracted by the success of others in their assignment; if you stick to yours you too will make it.
