“But Asahel refused to turn back, so Abner thrust the butt end of his spear through Asahel’s stomach, and the spear came out through his back. He stumbled to the ground and died there. And everyone who came by that spot stopped and stood still when they saw Asahel lying there.” – 2 Samuel 2:23 NLT

Gifts, talents, skills are great, but can never be substitutes for experience.

Asahel was skilled; he could run like a gazelle, so he began chasing Abner a war veteran. He pursued him relentlessly, not stopping for anything. Abner knew that Asahel was being overzealous; he knew that though Asahel was skilled, he lacked experience: Abner didn’t want to hurt him, so he warned him, “Go fight someone else!” Asahel didn’t listen, he kept right on chasing Abner. Left with no choice, Abner thrust the butt end of his spear through Asahel’s stomach, and the spear came out through his back. He stumbled to the ground and died there.

You must find a way to get experience, no matter how little. You will learn from experience what no one can ever teach you; no wonder they say that experience is the best teacher. David didn’t kill Goliath simply because he was anointed and skilled; he had some experience from killing a bear and a lion.

You are either going to have personal experience or you work with people with sufficient experience.
