“People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives.” Proverbs 16:2
Motives matter a lot; it is not enough to do what it right, what is right has to be done with the right motives for it to be truly right in the eyes of God.
Apostle Paul said something very important in 1 Corinthians 13:3. He said, “If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.”
A person can give for selfish reasons. A politician, for instance, can give Twenty million, not because he loves the people, but because he wants their votes and their affection. But if that same politician gives because he genuinely loves the people, his giving becomes acceptable in the sight of God. Motives make a difference.
As believers it is important that we do things with the right motives. That’s why pleasing the Lord should be our ultimate priority, because when you set out to please God, you have already gotten it right, and whatever you do will be accepted before God.
I have the mind of Christ in me, therefore it is easy for me to do things with the right motives. I live everyday of my life to please the Lord; pleasing God is my main motivation from today onward, in Jesus name. Amen.
