Matthew 16:24 NKJV “Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.”
We are so self-conscious today; and it’s worrisome considering the fact that it was prophesied that men would be lovers of themselves in the last days. We talk so much about loving “ourselves” more than we emphasize the need to love others.
To follow Jesus, He demands that we deny ourselves. In other words, you cannot put yourself and your needs before His! That’s what it means to follow, right? To be behind. He not only asks us to deny ourselves, He also asks us to carry our crosses. The Christian life is a call to make sacrifices. It’s not all fun as some of us have been made to believe, it will be inconveniencing and challenging.
It’s not all about Jesus meeting your needs and Him making your life beautiful; it’s also about you meeting His needs at any cost and championing His causes here on earth. But there’s a reward! Jesus endured the cross and the humiliation because He knew the joy that was set before Him; if we put Him first He will put us first; and really, His yoke is easy and His burden is light, His commandments too are not grievous.
