NEW YORK, United States — The Time 100 Gala brought together prominent figures from entertainment, journalism, and other fields on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, with several guests departing from conventional black-tie fashion on the red carpet.
The annual celebration of Time magazine’s list of influential people featured appearances by Pharrell Williams, Martha Stewart, Barbara Walters, and Carrie Underwood, whose outfits attracted attention for their contrasting styles.
Beyoncé, who was included on the magazine’s 2014 list, did not attend the event.
Pharrell Williams Pairs a Tuxedo With Denim
Williams combined formal and casual clothing for his appearance, wearing a tuxedo jacket with loose-fitting jeans and trainers marked with handwritten designs.
The musician also wore a Mickey Mouse bandage, an accessory that featured prominently in photographs of his arrival.
Stewart carried an oversized gold clutch, while Walters paired a pink skirt with a red belt.
Underwood chose a floral gown by designer Claire Pettibone, whose collections include bridal wear.
Her dress featured floral detailing and a silhouette associated with the designer’s wedding gowns.
The contrasting ensembles were among the looks photographed as guests arrived for the celebration.
