LAGOS, Nigeria — Hollywood actor Jonathan Majors broke down in tears as he thanked his wife, Meagan Good, for standing by him when his career collapsed and he faced financial hardship.
Good also became emotional as her husband recalled his criminal trial, the friends he lost, and the personal struggles he faced after his Hollywood career was derailed.
The couple spoke during a special edition of #WithChude, hosted by Nigerian media personality Chude Jideonwo at the 15th Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
The conversation, titled The Art of Becoming: Craft, Identity and Reinvention, explored Majors’ career, his struggles following a criminal conviction, and the role of faith and marriage in his life.

‘I Got Nothing to Give Her’
Majors spoke about the difficult period when his professional opportunities disappeared and he struggled financially.
He said Good entered his life when he was uncertain about his future and questioned what he could offer her.
“I ain’t got no money. I got nothing to give her,” he said.
Despite his circumstances, Good remained with him and supported him through his legal troubles.
As he recalled that period, Majors struggled to contain his emotions.
He described how Good accompanied him to court and helped him face the public scrutiny surrounding his trial.
The actor said people he had previously depended on gradually withdrew from his life as his career deteriorated.
His financial obligations, including legal expenses, continued to mount.
But Good remained.
In excerpts from the conversation shared on Instagram, Majors described her presence as an important source of support during that period.

The couple’s emotional exchange drew attention to the personal consequences of the actor’s legal difficulties and their relationship.
Hollywood Career Derailed by Assault Conviction
Majors was becoming one of Hollywood’s most prominent actors before his arrest in March 2023.
He had appeared in major productions, including Creed III, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and the television series Loki.
His career suffered a major setback after a New York jury convicted him in December 2023 of misdemeanour assault and harassment involving his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.
He was acquitted of two other charges.
In April 2024, a judge ordered him to complete a 52-week domestic violence intervention programme and continue mental health counselling.
He was not sentenced to prison.
The conviction had serious professional consequences. Marvel Studios dropped him from future projects, ending his planned role as the central villain in its next phase of superhero films.
Majors has maintained his innocence.
Good supported him throughout the proceedings and regularly accompanied him to court.
The couple announced their engagement in November 2024 and married in March 2025 at a private ceremony in Los Angeles.
Majors Reflects on Faith and Personal Struggles
During the Lagos conversation, Majors also discussed his childhood, unresolved personal difficulties, and how his professional success shaped his self-understanding.
He said the collapse of his career forced him to confront aspects of his life that he had previously neglected.
Jideonwo asked how he coped with the sudden loss of professional opportunities and the public attention surrounding his conviction.
Majors spoke about his Christian faith and described prayer as an important part of his response to the crisis.
He also spoke about Jesus as a source of companionship during periods of suffering and uncertainty.
Reflecting on the interruption to his career, he said he had come to view the experience through his faith.
“When God needs you to stop, he will stop you,” Majors said.
In another excerpt from the interview, the actor reflected on the changes in his life and his efforts to rebuild.
He described the experience as a period of personal reckoning rather than focusing exclusively on the professional opportunities he had lost.
A Marriage That Survived Public Scrutiny
Majors and Good’s relationship attracted considerable public attention after they began dating in 2023.
Good faced criticism for remaining with him during and after his trial.
She has previously defended her decision, saying her relationship was based on her personal knowledge of Majors and her belief in him.
The actress, known for her roles in Think Like a Man, Harlem, and Eve’s Bayou, has also spoken publicly about the importance of her Christian faith.
In earlier interviews, she described her marriage as a source of happiness and stability.
Their appearance in Lagos offered another public account of their relationship, this time through Majors’ recollection of the period before they married.
Hollywood Couple Attend AFRIFF
The interview formed part of AFRIFF’s 2026 programme, which brought Nigerian and international filmmakers, actors, and creative professionals together in Lagos.
The festival’s 15th edition, themed Frames of the Future: Africa’s Creative Intelligence, runs from November 1 to 7.
Good and Majors attended the opening gala alongside other international guests, including actor Djimon Hounsou.
The couple also expressed interest in engaging with African filmmakers and exploring opportunities for collaboration.
Jideonwo’s #WithChude interview was among the festival’s discussions examining the relationship between artistic careers, personal identity, and change.
For Majors, the conversation provided an opportunity to speak publicly about the consequences of his conviction, his efforts to rebuild his life, and the support he received from Good.
As the couple fought back tears, he returned repeatedly to the woman who had remained with him during one of the most difficult periods of his life.
