Suicide Bombing By ’10-year-old’ Girl Kills Not Fewer Than10 People In Maiduguri Market

Not less than 10 people have been confirmed dead following a suicide bombing by a 10-year girl old in the northeast Nigerian city of Maiduguri.

The explosion which occured at about 12.40pm on Saturday, January 10, 2014 at a crowded city market in Maiduguri packed with shoppers and traders going about their daily activities.

Confirming the reports, the Civilian vigilante Ashiru Mustapha said the explosives detonated as the girl was being searched at the entrance to the market by security operatives.

He said, “The girl was about 10 years old and I doubt much if she actually knew what was strapped to her body,”

“In fact, she was searched at the entrance of the market and the metal detector indicated that she was carrying something.
“But sadly, the explosion went off before she was isolated, killing at least 10 people and injuring many others.”

An eyewitness identified as Abubakar Bakura, who was present at the scene also confirmed the incident.

He said: “The blast split the suicide bomber into two and flung one part across the road.
“Among the dead are two vigilantes who were searching the girl. I am pretty sure the bomb was remotely controlled.”

However, There was been no proof or confirmation that this is yet another terrorist attack carried out by the deadly Islamic sect Boko Haram in their quest to take control of the Islamic states.
