A director in the Ministry of Petroleum and Solid Mineral Resources, in Abia state identified as Mr. Chinedu Onuoha, has allegedly raped his 10-year-old housemaid, Anurika Ngwakwe to death barely two months after she came to live with his family.
The tragic incident which happened at World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia, the state capital has left the victim’s family dumbfounded and full of regrets on why they actually sent her to an early grave by giving her out as a housemaid.
According to ThisDay, Mr. Chinenye Ngwakwe, a father of six, who works at the state Ministry of Finance as a security guard, said that he was shocked when his phone rang late in the evening of the fateful day of January 10, 2015, and Mrs. Precious Onuoha asked him to rush down to the hospital “and see what is happening to Anurika”.
Ngwakwe disclosed that on getting to the hospital, he saw his last daughter in a pitiable condition and already lifeless.
He said, “There was blood gushing out of her ears, mouth, private part and wounds on her body.”
He further disclosed that he was desperate to know the cause of his deceased daughter’s death despite the fact that there has been reports that she was raped to death.
“I want to know what killed my child. They have not told me,” Ngwakwe lamented.
The suspected rapist who is a senior civil servant had a different version of the story as he claimed that the girl had entered the car and locked herself and in the process of trying to come out of the car got herself injured and was taken to the hospital where she incidentally died.
The bereaved father said, “He told me that I should forget it, that what happen don happen,” adding that Onuoha even went to his car and brought out a bottle of hot drink “which he offered me and asked me to drink and cool my mind. Those who know the suspect described him as a polygamist and a heavy smoker and drinker.”
He disclosed that the wife to the suspect, Mrs Onuoha who also works in the Ministry of Finance had disturbed him a great deal to help her get a house maid so he eventually found one.
On January 10, 2015 Ngwakwe took the couple to his village in Owo Ohafor in Obingwa Local Government Area of same state. He took them to greet his family before they proceeded to where the main housemaid was waiting.
The victim was said to have greeted the couple in a manner that endeared her to them which prompted them to demand that she should be given to them as a housemaid instead.
Necessary arrangements were made and the girl moved to the city to stay with the family only to meet her death barely two months later.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna, said that the suspect had been arrested and taken into custody while investigations had commenced to unravel the mystery behind such tragic death.
