A pregnant woman, along with her 3-and-half-year old child and husband were on Thursday, January 1, 2014 crushed to death by a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, while taking a New Year leisure walk at about 8:30 pm.
Daily Sun reports that eyewitnesses affirmed that the husband was carrying the toddler as he walked beside his pregnant wife when the SUV ran into them along Adeoyo State Hospital Road, killing all three instantly.
It was gathered that the driver of the Honda Pilot SUV was a lady, suspected to have been driving under the influence as she was reported to have slammed the vehicle into an electric pole before it could be brought to a stop. When the SUV was opened, cartons of alcoholic drinks were discovered.
When contacted for confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Oya State Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu said he would need proper confirmation before any official statement on the matter could be issued.
