A 35-year-old wrestler has died in the middle of a fight in the ring following a blow to the neck from his fellow wrestler.
Pedro Aguayo Ramirez, known as Hijo del Perro Aguayo who hails from Mexico passed out in the ring after the severe flying kick from Oscar Gutierrez, known as Rey Mysterio Jr.In a footage of the match filmed in a municipal auditorium in Tijuana, the other wrestlers and even the referees ignored him and continued fighting probably without knowing that his condition was already critical.According to Metro UK, it was after about two minutes that they realized that he was in a serious condition and rushed him to a close hospital where he incidentally died around 1:30 am of Saturday, March 21, 2015.
The Baja California state prosecutor’s office disclosed through a spokesperson, Raul Gutierrez that a post-mortem examination, stated that the deceased died of trauma to the neck and a cervical fracture.
An investigation into possible manslaughter has commenced.
The company that reportedly organised the event, The Crash, could not be reached for comment.
The popular Aguayo who had wrestled for 20 years led a group called ‘Los Perros de Mal,’ or the bad dogs.
He was also the son of legendary Pedro ‘Perro’ Aguayo, now retired and a member of the Aztec lucha hall of fame.
Late Aguayo won numerous titles, including national pairs with his father, a national heavyweight championship and the Consejo Mundial Lucha Libre world trios championship.
A colleague of the deceased, Hijo del Santo said, ‘It makes me very sad because he was a professional colleague and I have great affection for his father.’
‘I think the fans in Japan, the US and Mexico, of course, where he was very popular, must be in mourning, especially because of his youth. He had much ahead of him.’
