A Mexican woman has been arrested for failure to was clothes belonging to her husband.
Dulce Requena Garcia, 21, was arrested and locked up at the Tampico police station in Mexico.
Requena was initially asked to pay a fine of $32, but because she had no money
on her at the time of arrest, she was locked up for 12 hours.
The incident began when her husband, Edgar Ivan Perez Alvarado, came home from work and wanted to change into clean clothes to go out with friends.
His wife refused to wash his laundry because she felt he had been cheating on her.
Her husband called the police, and informed them that his wife is spending too much time watching television and not enough time doing housework.
Police officers who responded to the scene, arrested the woman.
Women rights advocates in Mexico have criticized the police department in Mexico, for arresting a woman because she refused to wash her husband’s clothes.
