Must read

The Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, on Monday, November 23, 2015 dispensed fuel to motorists and motorcyclists free of charge in Kwara State.

A fuel station, Alkad and Sons Nigeria Limited was caught hoarding a total of 2300 litres of petrol, and as a result, a DPR team led by Operation Controller, Salvation Philip visited and dispensed the fuel for free.

According to the DPR team, the action is aimed at serving as a deterrent to others in accordance with a directive by the minister of petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu.

He said: “We want to use this to send a very strong warning to all marketers that anybody caught hoarding, diverting or flouting petroleum laws and regulations would be made to face the law.

“So, we are not joking about it. Let this serve as a deterrent to all intending hoarders of petroleum products. The situation is critical. We want to make sure that what is available is utilized. Any violation would not be tolerated by the Department of Petroleum Resources, especially here in Kwara State.”

Another station that was caught hoarding the product was Nasmut Nigeria Limited, located in Otte, Asa Local Government Area. Their products were also dispensed for free to members of the public, according to reports.

Philip added: “We are out for surveillance because of the situation on ground and we want to make sure that the fuel that comes in is distributed to commuters.”
