A 16-year-old boy (name withheld) who resides in at Ijora Badia area in Lagos state. He was been arraigned in a Magistrate Court in Apapa, Lagos state for allegedly having sexual intercourse in an uncompleted building with a small girl who is only just 2 years old.
The Prosecutor to the case, Mr Soji Ojaokomo mentioned that the repulsive act took place while the girl’s mother was away buying food for her daughter.
Mr. Ojaokomo said, “The accused took the girl to an uncompleted building beside the house and defiled her. Her mother started looking for her child on her return and she asked her neighbour, who said she left the girl to play outside with her children.
“The mother said while she was searching for her child, she heard her screaming from an uncompleted building beside the house. When she got there, she saw the accused satisfying his carnal desires with the child”.
Patrick Adekomaiya, the Magistrate ordered that the case be transferred to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
According to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011, the punishment for the defilement of a minor is life imprisonment.
The boy who pleaded not guilty to the charges, was granted bail by the Magistrate on the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum and the case was adjourned to Tuesday, May 5, 2015 pending the receipt of legal advice.
