Must read

KEFFI, Nigeria — Eighteen people, most members of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria, MULAN, sustained injuries in a road accident along the Keffi/Abuja highway on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

The lawyers, hailing from the Niger State chapter of MULAN, were en route to the capital of Nasarawa State, Lafia, to attend the 14th annual general meeting of the association when their bus was involved in a rollover accident around 2:40 p.m. near the Magaji Dan-Yamusa National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, permanent orientation camp in Keffi Local Government Area.

Mohammed Alfa Mohammed, one of the injured passengers on the bus, narrated the incident to journalists.

“Our bus somersaulted three times after it was hit by a Peugeot car at high speed,” he stated, adding that while all occupants of the bus sustained varying degrees of injuries, no lives were lost in the accident.

The victims currently receive treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, in Keffi. The severity of their injuries and their current condition have not yet been disclosed.

Efforts to reach the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Keffi branch for a statement regarding the accident were unsuccessful, as calls to their office went unanswered. The circumstances leading up to the accident remain under investigation.

The unfortunate incident underscores Nigeria’s ongoing road safety challenge, particularly on the heavily trafficked highways connecting major cities and local government areas.

This accident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for improved road safety measures and infrastructure development to prevent such incidents, which can result in devastating consequences for travelers.
