NAN – An Upper Area Court in Kado, Abuja, on Thursday, July 17, 2014 sentenced a 20-year-old scavenger, Abdulmumuni Adams, to three months in prison for stealing generator components worth over N350, 000.

Adams of Jabi Garage, Abuja, was charged with joint act and theft.

The presiding judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Adams after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Sadiq did not give the convict an option of fine.

He said the punishment would serve as deterrent to those who might want to engage in similar act.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, told the court that Mr Friday Ozembe of Jaji Street, Kubwa, Abuja, lodged a report against Adams at the Utako police station on July 14.

Ibrahim said the accused person and two others, now at large, trespassed into the complainant’s workshop and stole generator alternator and radiator valued at N350, 000.
He said during police investigation, the accused confessed that he committed the crime.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provision of sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.
