The Director General of the Lagos Goodluck-Sambo Independent Campaign Group (LGSICG) Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse has warned the Lagos State Signage & Advertisement Agency (LASAA) to desist from allowing itself to be used by the Lagos State Government as a tool to muzzle the opposition in the state.
In a statement on Thursday, Dr. Pearse, a university don and former PDP Lagos gubernatorial aspirant decried the removal of posters, billboards and other outdoor campaign materials of opposition candidates in the state, particularly those of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Henceforth, anywhere our posters and outdoor campaign materials are removed by LASAA, we will do the same to materials belonging to the ruling APC government in Lagos State in a bigger magnitude. We will no longer condone this reckless abuse of public institutions for the selfish interests of those who want to perpetuate themselves in power at all costs.”
He went further to accuse the APC in Lagos State of planning to compromise the outcomes of the general elections. According to him, “The APC is buying PVCs off the electoral officers and youths in Lagos State and every step they are taking is to manipulate the polls to achieve a stolen victory. They are grossly unpopular in Lagos State because of the corruption and insensitivity of their government.”
He berated the APC led Lagos State Government for what he described as its consistent failure in delivering the dividends of democracy to Lagosians. “How do you explain the recent demand by Lagos State Government that all students sitting for JSS3 exams should pay N10, 000? Quality of education is on a steady decline. LASU has had to reduce its cut off mark for undergraduates from 220 to 170, yet the institution remains a wasteland of academic decadence. No student wants to attend LASU for free right now. This is how bad the situation is,” he declared.
