3 Feared Dead In Post-Election Violence In Osun

A clash between some ardent supporters of the All Progressive Congress, APC, and People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has left at least three persons dead in Ile Ife, Osun State.
Punch gathered on Sunday, April 12, 2015 that one of the victims was killed in a fight on Saturday, April 11, 2015 after the collation of the election results.
It was learnt that the fight which started at night rolled over to the following day with gun duel in some areas before security operatives arrived and restored normalcy in the area.
A source, Adewale Idowu, who resides in the troubled area said the rivals clashed in Gbodo, Ayetoro and Ita Akogun areas of the town.
According to Idowu, houses and vehicles were destroyed while an unknown number of persons were injured during the encounter.
He, “I saw a corpse on the road after the fight had subsided. Everybody ran inside to avoid being caught in the cross fire. I hope the number of casualties is not more than that.”
Two unidentified persons said to be siblings were allegedly killed in Gbodo area according to a resident who preferred anonymity.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police in charge of election in Osun State, Mr. Valentine Ntomchukwu is yet to confirm the incidents.
However, the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the state, Mr. Babawale Afolabi, confirmed that one person was killed in the night of Saturday, April 11, 2015.
