JOS, Nigeria — A 34-year-old man has been found dead near Bauchi Ring Road in Jos, Plateau State, hours after leaving his family home in the Rikkos community of Jos North Local Government Area.
Saeed Saleh Gambazi left home on Friday, September 18, 2026, but failed to return that evening.
His family became concerned after repeated attempts to contact him by telephone proved unsuccessful.
His remains were later taken to the Old Jos University Teaching Hospital morgue, where relatives identified and recovered his body for burial.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
Sister Learns of Death Through Brother’s Phone
Gambazi’s younger sister, Salifa Saleh Gambazi, told Daily Trust that she learnt of his death after an unidentified person answered his telephone.
According to Salifa, the person told her that Gambazi had been stabbed in the back and had died while being taken to hospital.
She said she was directed to the Anguwan Rukuba Police Post for information about recovering his body.
The family subsequently visited the Nassarawa Police Division before being taken to the hospital morgue, where they collected his remains.
The identity of the person who answered Gambazi’s telephone and the circumstances surrounding the reported stabbing have not been established.
Family Seeks Answers Over Killing
Gambazi’s father, Saleh Abdu Gambazi, described his son as a peaceful, dedicated, and focused man whose death had left the family devastated.
He said his wife informed him of the killing after relatives had unsuccessfully tried to reach their son.
Gambazi’s mother, Hajaratu Abubakar Aminu, recalled that she last saw him at home preparing water for his bath.
She said she had been preparing to visit a bereaved neighbour and had instructed her son to lock the main entrance before leaving the house.
The family said it had received no information identifying those responsible for Gambazi’s death or establishing a possible motive.
According to his relatives, the police have assured them that efforts will continue to identify and apprehend those responsible.
No arrests have been reported in connection with the killing.
