40 Illegal Immigrants Paraded In Calabar

A total of about 40 illegal immigrants who found their way into the country without the necessary travelling documents have been arrested and paraded in Calabar by the Cross River State command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

The immigrants, who were arrested on Monday February 9, 2015 were paraded on Thursday, February 12 , 2015 and were said to be from different African countries.

While parading the suspects, Mrs. Funke Adeuyi, the Cross River State Comptroller of Immigration said the apprehension of the immigrants was in line with NIS policy of screening and deporting aliens without valid documents.

Adeuyi said: “These illegal immigrants were arrested on Monday February 9 by the intelligence group of the NIS at different locations in the state.

“We have thoroughly screened and profiled them. We have also identified those ones that are not here with their valid traveling documents.

“At the end of the day, we have been able to identify 40 of them, and they will be leaving the country as soon as possible.

“Out of the 40 of them, 12 are from Mali, 10 from Burkinafaso, six from Niger Republic, five from Guinea, three from Senegal and four from Cameroon.”
